WMUR: Unemployment payments go out to tens of thousands of Granite Staters

“Help is on the way for those struggling with unemployment in New Hampshire, as state officials said more than 50,000 payments were sent out Tuesday morning, including the $600 per week stipend from the federal government.”

“Many people who have applied for benefits have continued to express frustrations with the system, experiencing long delays on the phone as they wait to get their questions answered. Lavers said the state doubled its call center capacity over the weekend, so wait times should decrease.”

“”Folks can go back later in the day, I would say after 5 o’clock,” he said. “We are open until 8 o’clock to answer those calls.””

COVID Summary for 4/20

I had more unemployment questions this week. Most were regarding the stimulus checks and the federal unemployment program for people who don’t qualify for regular unemployment. This is from the Dept. of Employment Security:

“Regarding the Federal stimulus payments of $1,200 per individual, please note these are NOT considered wages and do NOT need to be reported for purposes of determining either your initial or weekly eligibility for purposes of calculating unemployment benefits.”

Some were nervous about not be able to file continuing claims. After being denied for monetary ineligibility, it tells you to file claims every week, but the system doesn’t let you. This is from Employment Security Deputy Commissioner Richard Lavers:

“If you are denied for insufficient earnings you will receive a denial and will be unable to file your continued claims. This is ok and you do not need to do anything. We will review your claim for PUA eligibility and will back date your claim to cover any payable weeks.”
