Governor Hassan Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Dallas Police
Officers

CONCORD – Governor Maggie Hassan today directed flags lowered to
half-staff in honor of the Dallas police officers who lost their lives
protecting the rights of their fellow citizens to peacefully protest.

Governor Hassan directed that flags be flown at half-staff until sundown on
Monday.

Earlier this morning, Governor Hassan issued the following statement:

“Tom and I join all Granite Staters in mourning the brave members of law
enforcement who lost their lives in Dallas protecting the rights of their
fellow citizens to peacefully protest. We pray for the full and swift
recovery of those wounded, and we stand with the family and friends of all
these officers. We must not rest until the perpetrators of this ambush are
brought to justice.

“In the aftermath of last night’s shooting, we also want the
extraordinary members of New Hampshire’s law enforcement community to know
how grateful we are for their service and professionalism – and the
sacrifices their families make – each and every day. You face danger
every single day to keep our families and our communities safe, and we are
profoundly grateful.

“All Americans need to stand together on this terrible morning and make
sure we continue to do so each and every morning. Pictures before the
shootings showed police officers and protesters in Dallas – and in cities
across the country – working peacefully and respectfully together. It was
a reminder of the professionalism, passion and fundamental goodwill of our
law enforcement officers and our citizens.

“As we mourn the death of these officers and grapple with these horrific
events, we must re-commit ourselves to being there for the people of
Dallas, to being there for each other, and to building bridges of respect
and compassion in every community that will help keep us all safe.”

Transportation Solutions for Western New Hampshire

For over a year, I have been working with members from both parties, and transportation professionals, to put together a regulatory package that will allow Uber, Lyft, and other transportation network companies to operate in New Hampshire.  If you have lived in Sullivan County for a while, you have seen conventional cab companies come and go.  There just isn’t the volume necessary to sustain these businesses.  We hope that the ability to work part time will bring Uber/Lyft service here and provide more rides.  While very few people need transportation (disabled, lost license, car broke down, etc.), the people who do need it have an urgent need for it.  I hope that this new service will provide income and transportation opportunities for our neighbors.

Rep. Steven Smith

Uber press release:

“Today marks an important moment where New Hampshire has embraced innovation and options in enacting smart, sensible ridesharing regulations. On behalf of the Uber New Hampshire team, I’d like to thank Senator Donna Soucy, Representatives John Hunt and Steve Smith, and the leadership teams in both the House and Senate for their hard work in crafting and backing this important legislation, as well as Governor Maggie Hassan for her support of this bill.  We are also grateful for advocates such as the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce for their strong support of ridesharing. We look forward to keeping New Hampshire moving by continuing to connect riders and driver-partners so that riders get a ride when they need it, and driver-partners can earn money to support their families all at the push of a button.”

Flags to half staff for Doug Clement, a hero

CONCORD – Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the passing of New Hampton Firefighter/A-EMT Doug Clement, who passed away in the line of duty, and directed flags to half-staff on Sunday, June 19, through Tuesday, June 21:

New-Hampton-6-15-jpg“As a firefighter and EMT, Doug Clement demonstrated an unyielding commitment to his fellow citizens, to his community and to his state, representing what it means to be a public servant in New Hampshire. Doug
served the Granite State with dedication and bravery, oftentimes rushing into dangerous situations to protect the safety of his fellow citizens.  The New Hampton community is better for his service, and Tom and I join Doug’s family and friends, the New Hampton community and people across the entire state in mourning his loss.”
