Flags to half staff to honor Ray Burton

Losing Ray Burton is one of those things that makes it feel as though the world has changed.  Ray was the epitome of the happy good guy.  Even when you disagreed with him, you liked him.  Ray was able to bring the good fight, without it ever becoming acrimonious or personal.  Sadly, an era has ended with Ray’s passing.  We’ll miss him.

Thank a Veteran

ImageToday, I go to work, then go home to my house in the woods.  My dog will greet me, my children will be safe.  I’m just a regular guy, but despite that, I can not only criticize the government, but I can also be  part of it.  I’ll make a lot of small decisions today that we take for granted because we are free.  For each one of these things, big and small, I thank our veterans.  They are the ones who put on a uniform and announced to the world, if you want to infringe on Americans’ freedoms, you have to go through us.  My family and I thank our veterans.  Freedom isn’t free.  It is easy to forget that as we enjoy our holidays.  Go to Arlington National Cemetery some time.  It is truly a moving experience seeing the acres and acres of stones commemorating the lives of those who have sworn life and honor to protect us.  Remember what today is about and find a way to than a veteran.

Police warn people of phone scam in NH, VT, Maine

Police warn people of phone scam in NH, VT, Maine

Posted: Nov 08, 2013 4:34 AM EST Updated: Nov 08, 2013 4:34 AM EST

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – The New Hampshire State Police are warning people about a phone scam that has already victimized mostly older residents of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Police say people have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The caller claims the person has won the lottery and/or a car and must pay a transfer fee to collect the winnings. Victims are sometimes instructed to buy prepaid money cards at a local store and told how much to load onto the card.

Police say legitimate sweepstakes don’t require winners to pay to collect. They recommend people never wire money or provide personal information, such as bank account numbers or Social Security numbers, to a stranger.

People should contact a phone provider, local police or the Federal Trade Commission if they suspect a scam.
