County Budget, Firewood, and Updates

Can I open or not?

There has been a lot of speculation about what the rules actually mean, and to whom they apply. It is always better to ask the source. Many businesses can be operating right now if they comply with the safety regulations. Much of this can be found in exhibit C to order 40 https://www.governor.nh.gov/sites/g/files/ehbemt336/files/documents/emergency-order-40-c.pdf If you have a doubt, let me know an I will get the answer from the Governor’s office and/or the task force. ~ Steve

Sullivan County Budget

The county budget is being worked on right now, which is especially challenging with the economic uncertainty we are living in. You should weigh in on it. Should we continue proceeding with the nursing home renovation or pump the brakes? Should we freeze salaries?

AP: Rural health clinics get money to expand virus testing

“New Hampshire health clinics are getting nearly $700,000 to expand coronavirus testing in rural communities.

The money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services can be used for planning a testing program program, purchasing supplies, training providers and reporting data on testing activities. It can also be used to build temporary structures or retrofitting existing facilities.”

WMUR: New Hampshire beaches to remain closed during Memorial Day weekend

“Gov. Chris Sununu again insisted on Tuesday that New Hampshire beaches are not ready to open for Memorial Day weekend.

Last weekend, cars drove up Hampton’s Ocean Boulevard while people lined up for food at the few spots that have opened. But the boardwalk was still largely empty, and barricades continue to block off parking lots.””

The state Economic Reopening Task Force unanimously approved reopening guidance for all of these activities, subject to review and approval from the Division of Public Health Services and Gov. Chris Sununu.

“This is another important phase of our work,” said D.J. Bettencourt, Sununu’s policy director and staff liaison to the task force.”

You Can Participate

I was talking with someone who had the impression that Governor Sununu is in an office with a few staffers making all the decisions that are affecting us. We probably have not done a good enough job explaining what really happens. There are multiple stakeholder and industry meetings, and opportunities for those parties to provide input. How does an industry or organization get attention, or rise to the top of the list? I have observed the Governor’s work style to favor self-motivation. Industries and groups who come forward with a safety plan rise to the top. We do need ideas from as wide a spectrum as possible, so encourage people to participate.
