Flags to Half Staff in honor of Officer Stephen Arkell

CONCORD – Governor Maggie Hassan today issued the following statement in
honor of fallen Brentwood Police Officer Stephen Arkell on the one-year
anniversary of his murder:

“One year ago today, Brentwood Police Officer Steve Arkell bravely
answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice in order to
protect his fellow citizens,” Governor Hassan said. “Like so many of
our first responders do on a daily basis, Officer Arkell courageously put
his life on the line to protect others, and in doing so, was tragically
taken far too soon. One year later, our thoughts and prayers remain with
his family and loved ones, as well as his fellow police officers and
everyone in the Brentwood and surrounding communities.”

President Barack Obama has issued a proclamation ordering flags on all
public buildings and grounds to half-staff for National Peace Officers
Memorial Day on Friday, May 15, 2015, and Governor Hassan has directed
flags to half-staff for the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers’
Memorial Ceremony on Friday, March 22.

“As we mark these solemn occasions, we honor all of our fallen heroes who
gave their lives to protect ours, as well as their families, loved ones and
the entire law enforcement community,” Governor Hassan said. “Though
there is nothing that we can do to ease the pain of their loss, we will
continue to come together and do everything that we can to offer our
support and our gratitude.”
