Big thanks to Ben Sarro for having me on this morning to talk about the Sullivan County Republican Committee. We are entering an exciting and busy two year cycle. 2015 will begin the NH Primary. Presidential candidates will be coming here, and we will have an opportunity to meet them. 2016 will have State Primaries for US Senate, US Congress, and Governor. This is a perfect time to get involved, meet candidates, and make a difference. To be a part of it, please contact me.

Yep, I said Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays… although I do wish those for you as well. When I was a kid, we wished people Merry Christmas because we genuinely wished them good tidings, and Christmas was what we did. The Jewish kids would generally reply “Thank you, and Happy Hanukkah”. Now and then, someone would say “Thanks, but I don’t do Christmas”. Note that they still said “Thanks”. We would then say “well then, have a great holiday season!”.

Christmas is a time when we should be a little better person than we are the rest of the year. We should think of others, and not assume that everyone is out to hurt or offend us. In the Civil War, and other wars, opposing pickets and sentries would pool their meager supplies and celebrate Christmas together, while a temporary cease-fire was in effect.

My wish is that we all remember those sentries. During Christmas, let’s all try to remember that most people do usually mean well, and give them credit for it. Let’s not react first in anger to perceived slights and insults. The truth is, most of the time, we just didn’t try hard enough to understand an opposing viewpoint.

This was a pretty momentous week for me. Last Saturday, I was elected Chairman of the Sullivan County Republican Committee. As Chairman, I sit on the state Executive Committee, and am responsible for building our Sullivan County organization. I am looking forward to new ideas and more opportunities to enhance our image in our county. With the Presidential Primary right around the corner, this is an exciting time to be involved and I encourage more people to participate. If you want better access to candidates, and all the latest information, our committee is the place to be.

I was also surprised by the Speaker of the House at a meeting on Wednesday when I was offered the chair of the NH House Transportation Committee. This is quite an honor, and after considering whether I could meet the obligation, I have accepted the position. Besides a subject that I have some knowledge of, I have found this committee to have the most inspired debate that is not political. Members typically are eager to learn about the subject matter of the bills. Planes, trains, and automobiles…. boats too. If it is a vehicle in NH, we hear the bill.
