Constituent Services
In the midst of all the sensational, tabloid big issues, it is easy for people to forget what their Representative’s first job is. There are so many of us so that you can get easy access to us. My first job as your Representative to the NH House is to be available when you have questions about legislation, to be available to hear your concerns and opinions, to assist when you have trouble with state or county agencies, and to maintain a dialog so that you know what is really going on in Concord.
To that end, I am working out a schedule so that I can hold office hours on a Saturday once a month in each of the towns of Sullivan County District 11 – Acworth, Charlestown, Goshen, Langdon, Lempster, and Washington. This doesn’t mean that I won’t be available other times. I have answered every letter, phone call, and email that I have received while serving. I will continue to do that. Some people aren’t comfortable with that though, and prefer a face to face meeting. Setting regular office hours will help facilitate this. So, I ask for your vote. We’re a group of small towns, so I can’t promise that I can get legislation pushed through… we only have so many votes out here. I can promise that if you elect me, you will always be able to get an answer from your Representative, by mail, phone, email, visit, or office hours. It may not be the answer that you want, but it will be prompt, and it will be the truth.
Afghanistan
The war in Afghanistan is approaching its twelfth year. Over 80,000 American serviceman and women are fighting there, right now. Our casualties recently crested the 2,000 mark. I realize that foreign affairs are not my purview, and not a topic for my campaign. Nonetheless, I think that ALL elected officials need to speak out about this war. I’m old enough to remember how other conflicts went. There was a clearly defined mission, a definition of victory, and regular updates from the Commander in Chief and/or Secretary of Defense. I can’t remember President Obama ever giving an address to the American people regarding the state of the war. 2000 of our troops have died! Doesn’t that warrant at least an occasional mention? That equals one of our brave men or women dying every two days. I’d like to know how things are going and when they’ll be able to come home. Don’t let them get away with it any more. Call the White House. Call your Senator. Call your Congressman. Tell them that we are paying attention. , we do care, and we demand to be kept informed. This can’t be a shadow war any more. Our service men and women deserve better.
