You’ll run across a lot of people today who will say “Happy 4th of July”. I’m asking you to correct them. We don’t celebrate the 4th. We celebrate Independence Day, a very important day of remembrance. It is easy these days, to look at the problems of the world, and think we can’t do anything about it. On this day, remember that a long time ago, a bunch of regular people talked with their families and friends, and then set off to fight one of the best trained armies in the world. Why? It was important. Being free is something that we put a price tag on at our own peril. Those folks, back then, risked all to make us free. Today, we celebrate their sacrifice and success. Help people remember that they hold the power. Politicians and big businesses will try to convince you otherwise. They’re wrong. The power is yours to be free, and your freedom can only ever be taken with your permission. Remember Independence Day, what it means… and never, ever let anyone steal your freedom.
