Route 12 Update October 15

From NHDOT:

Dear Elected Official of Charlestown, Walpole and Claremont:

The Department’s Geotechnical Engineers have been hard at work modifying the design for the Charlestown Rt 12 repairs.  The design was modified to remove some of the drainage work, which would have required additional temporary shoring.

The plan and contract document were revised pursuant to negotiations with the Railroad and the documents were submitted to the Railroad this past Monday for review and approval.  The Project Manager, Jason Ayotte, discussed these revisions/modifications with the Railroad’s review engineer   Although the Railroad engineer’s response was positive, it will take time for the Railroad to review and approve the documents.

Once the Railroad accepts the plan and contract, the department will seek approval from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), which is required before the project can be advertised.

Although this is a short update, the work behind the design revisions was intensive.  Having the plan and contract to the Railroad for review is a major step forward.
