Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015

“Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015” (H.R. 2675)

Companies currently sell “replica” cars without drive-train components to consumers. Generally, these are cars that resemble vehicles produced over 25 years ago.

HR 2675 would provide companies with the option of selling up to 500 replica cars a year to consumers as completed vehicles, while still selling kits to enthusiasts who prefer to build the vehicles themselves. Enthusiasts would also still have the ability to build specially constructed vehicles that don’t replicate older vehicles.

The states have categories for these replica and kit cars, many of which allow them to be titled and registered by the model year that they most closely resemble (ex: ’32 Ford, ’63 Cobra). They are collector cars shown-off at car shows, exhibitions and on the weekends, not daily drivers.

Why is HR 2675 necessary? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) only has a “one-size-fits-all” method for regulating commercial vehicle manufacturers and views turn-key replica cars to be current model year vehicles and subject to the same rules as companies that produce millions of cars. This bill provides separate regulations that will enable smaller companies to produce ready-to-drive replica cars for consumers that prefer that option.

Flags to Half Staff in honor of Officer Stephen Arkell

CONCORD – Governor Maggie Hassan today issued the following statement in
honor of fallen Brentwood Police Officer Stephen Arkell on the one-year
anniversary of his murder:

“One year ago today, Brentwood Police Officer Steve Arkell bravely
answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice in order to
protect his fellow citizens,” Governor Hassan said. “Like so many of
our first responders do on a daily basis, Officer Arkell courageously put
his life on the line to protect others, and in doing so, was tragically
taken far too soon. One year later, our thoughts and prayers remain with
his family and loved ones, as well as his fellow police officers and
everyone in the Brentwood and surrounding communities.”

President Barack Obama has issued a proclamation ordering flags on all
public buildings and grounds to half-staff for National Peace Officers
Memorial Day on Friday, May 15, 2015, and Governor Hassan has directed
flags to half-staff for the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers’
Memorial Ceremony on Friday, March 22.

“As we mark these solemn occasions, we honor all of our fallen heroes who
gave their lives to protect ours, as well as their families, loved ones and
the entire law enforcement community,” Governor Hassan said. “Though
there is nothing that we can do to ease the pain of their loss, we will
continue to come together and do everything that we can to offer our
support and our gratitude.”

NJ Governor Chris Christie in Sunapee

Yesterday I met Gov. Chris Christie in Sunapee. The state party bylaws prohibit me from endorsing anyone this cycle. I am however, a fierce partisan for Sullivan County. Thank you Gov. Christie for visiting us, and I hope we see all the candidates multiple times this cycle.
